Aerospatiale of France

Aerospatiale/BAC Concorde Commercial jet aircraft.  Developed by the United States.  Not used in the United States because of American environmental regulations; and because if used by American commercial airlines, would have destroyed/murdered/conquered the inferior British and French airline industries because they would not have been able to compete.

Based in the French city of Toulouse, the Airbus consortium is made up of British Aerospace (BAe / BA.L); Daimler-Benz AG (DAIG.F) aerospace unit of Germany, the parent of Airbus partner Daimler-Benz Aerospace; France’s stated-owned Aerospatiale; and Construcciones Aeronauticas / Aeronauticas SA of Spain.

Airbus A320     Commercial jet aircraft.  27 February 1998, Central American airline Transportes Aereos Centroamericanos (TACA) said it was spending $1.2 billion on a five-year program to buy 30 Airbus A-319 and A-320 jets to replace Boeing 737-200 planes.

TACA is part of a group of Latin American airlines including companies from Brazil and Chile that plan to buy 100 of the Airbus A-319s as part of an aggressive modernization plan. The deal would be worth more than $4 billion to Airbus.

TACA’s fleet currently contains 46 aircraft -- 30 737-200s, 10 A-320s, two Boeing 767s and the Airbus jets it bought in 1997.

Antonov An-24   Coke Commercial propellor aircraft.  Twin-turboprop short-range commercial transport.  Two 2550 shp Ivchenko AI-24 turboprops.  Entered service in 1963.

Antonov An-32   Cline Commercial and military propellor aircraft.  Twin-engined military tactical transport.  Two 4195 ehp Ivchenko AI-20M or 5112 ehp AI-20DM turboprops. Derivative of An-26.  Entered service in early 1980s.

[William E.] Boeing Aircraft Company

In December 1996, Boeing Aircraft Company purchased McDonnell Douglas for $13 billion.  Thus, the two companies have merged; continuing the decrease of U.S. aerospace companies since the end of the Cold War.

World War II bomber.  The military version of the Boeing 307 Stratocruiser airliner is the C-97 Stratocruiser cargo plane.

Boeing 707 Stratoliner/Sentry   Commercial jet aircraft.  Military versions include the C-137 (Cargo), EC-137D (Electronic), and VC-137C (Staff and Administrative Transport) Stratoliners; the modified 707 E-3A/C (AWACS) Sentry and KE-3 (Tanker) Sentry; and the E-6A (Electronic) Tacamo.

Boeing 717 Stratolifter/Stratotanker (Military).  Derived from the same prototype that led to the successful 707 airliner, the Boeing 717 military versions include the C-135F (Cargo), EC-135E (Electronic), RC-135/E/T/U/W (Reconnaissance), VC-135C (Staff and Administrative Transport), and WC-135C (Weather) Stratolifter; and the KC-135A/E/L/Q/R Stratotanker.  The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker has the distinction of being the only aircraft designed primarily for the mission of aerial refueling.  As of 1998, soon to be discontinued, resulting after the 1996 / 1997 mergers of McDonnell Douglas and Rockwell International into Boeing.

Cessna 172 Skyhawk     The 4-seat 172, called the Skyhawk, is a little bigger than the 152, and is powered by a 160-hp Lycoming engine, and its maximum speed is 144 mph.

McDonnell-Douglas DC-9 Super 80     Commercial jetliner.  The Super 80 can transport 137 passengers, in first class and coach seating, mor than 2,000 statute miles (3,200 km); or 155 passengers, in all-coach arrangement, more than 1,500 statute miles (2,400 km).  Maximum capacity of the new aircraft is 172 passengers.  Fuselage of the Super 80 has been lengthened 14 feet (4.2 m) to 148 feet (45 m), and the wing area is 28% greater than earlier DC-9s.

Powering one version of the Super 80 are Pratt & Whitney Aircraft JT8D-209 turbofan engines, with a higher bypass ratio than earlier JT8D engines.  A product of advanced technology, the JT8D-209 engines provide more takeoff and cruise thrust, yet are noticeably quieter on takeoff and consume less fuel.
